Chowy's Metal Tune 2

Hello again, GMC friends!!

I hope you're practising all these metal riffs. You'll find them really useful. They have totally worked for me, not only to correct my technique but also to improve my playing and composition skills.

In this case, it's another powerful riff I composed with my friend Carlos cabrera from Ecuador some years ago, the song is called "zero" and you can check it out here: http://www.purevolume.com/whodwellswithin
The lesson is more in the THE HAUNTED syle (I recommend this band, especially their first albums) and also somewhat like IN FLAMES, with lots of palm mute and harmonized guitars, as I've been showing you in my previous lessons. Once again, when you want to play good metal, the need of creating good melodies and riffs for twin guitars becomes essential.

You should always keep in mind that when you're making a song everything is based on the first idea. If the first idea is complex, you should take care that the other parts are related to the first one but never outshine it. Then, when you go back to that first idea, it will have more relevance, flowing in a more easy-going, ear-appealing way.
The elements here are similiar to those in my previous metal lessons, with a similar structure: bridge, part A, part B, bridge, part A, chorus. Whatever the style is, when you're composing a song it's important to write down the parts to avoid overlooking the structure.

Work on your palm mute. Work on harmonizing in minor thirds--and why not in major thirds as well. Audio is a very important (or the most important) thing in music. Pay attention and really LISTEN to what's happening when you compose.
