Hi GMC'ers!
This lesson is about a request that was made a long ago, a lesson about Andy McKee, that great acoustic player. I've taken the reference of a song that I liked and it uses standard tuning (for a Barinote guitar), so if you play it on your guitar you could learn it with the standard tuning (E-A-D-G-B-E). The standard tuning for a Baritone guitar is a perfect fourth below (B-E-A-D-F#-B), I've tuned my guitar two whole-steps below the standard tuning to emulate that sensation of the baritone guitar (C-F-Ab-Eb-G-C). I've tried to tune the guitar like a Baritone but if you do that you'll see that the string loses too much tension and it's not good to play.
So, the tuning I use is a major third below the standard tuning to emulate the baritone guitar but you can play this song using standard tuning.
The songs where McKee uses this guitar are: Ebon Coast and Heather's Song, you can search them on you tube and see some great takes on them.
He has four records:
* Nocturne (2001)
* Dreamcatcher (2004)
* Art of Motion (2005)
* Gates of Gnomeria (2007)
All are great, I really recommend them, he has a lot of taste to create new acoustic songs, he and Erik Mongrain are the top level guitar players on Candyrat records in my opinion.
I hope you enjoy the lesson! :)
