  • Hello everybody!

    Welcome to my new lesson!
In this lesson you will learn how to play a riff in the style of Nuno Bettencourt, develop attack and play in the "pocket".
Try to control your gain with your hands. The harder you pick, the more gain you will get. This part is very important when you are working on your right hand technique.

I used some rhythm patterns from my other lesson called "Funk Rhythms".
You can find all of those rhythms explained in details there.

    Gear:
    Tom Anderson Telecaster
    Ugly Amps - Ugly 18
    ZMG - Aspid Drive
    Neve - compressors and EQ
    Fractal AXE FX
    Apogee ensemble

When you are working on this lesson make sure to pay close attention to the groove. It is very important to be locked in with drums and bass as the whole track is a little layed back so try to be a little behind the beat! Also watch out for the triplets and make sure to practice them at a slow tempo using a metronome.

I hope you will have fun practicing this lesson and will learn a lot about the groove and dynamic.

    Scale
This riff is based on E minor blues pentatonic :

    E

    Chords

I used a lot of 5 chords in different positions plus some 7#9 (Hendrix chords) :

    G5

    A5

    Fmi

    D5

    C5

    E7#9

    F7#9
