  • Hey GMC!

I'm really excited to share with you this new Jazz Blues comping lesson.

In this lesson we look at a LOT of voicings for chords that are commonly used in Blues and Jazz.

To give the chords that Jazzy sound you will learn extended and altered chords but don't be put off by the number of chords in the lesson. Take the lesson one chord at a time and remember you're only playing G, C, D, E and Am mostly but we add a lot of variations within those chords to spice up the harmony.

    GEAR:

For this lesson I was using a MusicMan Cutlass Sterling guitar with a torex orange pick (.60mm) plugged straight into Logic Pro via a Scarlett 2i2 using a Logic pro amp/cab simulator (picture below)

    Chord progression:

    Basic jazz blues skeleton

    | G7 | C7 | G7 | G7 |

    | C7 | C7 | G7 | E7 |

    |Am7 | D7 | G7 E7 | Am7 D7 |

in the lesson we play this chord progression and colour it with extended, altered and passing chords. Its very important to internalise this chord progression as its the back bone of most jazz blues tunes.
