The "Chicken Pickin' the Blues" lesson reinterprets some classic blues riffs into a more country-friendly environment. I was primarily inspired by Stevie Ray Vaughan and thinking through how some of his playing might translate. First, I kept the tone in a chicken picking arena. But, the sound also works well as a blues tone. I'm using the bridge pickup to help keep it clean and snappy rather than the warmer neck pickup. I'm using a compressor and an overdriven fender amp sound with spring reverb and a warm tape delay for slapback echo. Rhythmically I am using a lot more syncopation. Also, the right hand is helping translate with palm muting and staccato styles. It all lives within pentatonic scales so the basic fingering isn't too difficult. The primary challenge is the stylized hybrid picking work.
