  • Hi GMC!

Welcome to my new lesson in the style of Asking Alexandria, an English band from York, formed by lead vocalist Danny Worsnop, guitarists Ben Bruce and Cameron Liddel, drummer James Cassells and bassist Sam Bettley.

    Music Style:
Their style is a combination of Metalcore, Post-Hardcore, Heavy Metal and Hardrock, with some Electronic elements. In their recent album, they found a “bigger” sound incorporating slower tempos and groovier rhythms without losing three essential elements in their music: energy, melody and modern arrangements. I’ve composed a lessons inspired by some of their recent most powerful hits. This tune recreates their style by showing their most used rhythms, chord progressions, guitar arrangements and overall production techniques.

    Tonality, Chord Progression & Scales:
This tune is in E minor key and I use the same chord progression in the whole tune. The different parts and feels are achieved by the arrangement of each section and what the instruments play. The last section is based on a power chords riff using E Phrygian major scale, one of the most used uncommon modes in Metal.

    Techniques:
In this lesson I combine rhythm with lead guitar melodies and arrangements. We will work on Palm Muting, Riffing, Alternate Picking and Vibrato.

    Sound:

I used Fractal Ax8's FAS 6160 amp, Cubase 9.5 to record audio and midi, Addictive Drums II for drums and Trillian for bass.

    Tuning: Drop D.
