Information

Item: Preamp
Make: Marshall
Model: JMP-1
Price: $1500 in 1995, no newer price since this item has been discontinued.

Reliability:

It's built to last. I've had this unit since 1995. I've used it for hours on a daily basis and i have never had a single problem with it. (Knock on wood)

Ease of use:

Making presets and setting up the sound you want is as easy as can be. Setting it up for midi-communication is a bit more tricky though, but it's very well explained in the manual. Anyone with some knowledge and experience with midi should be able to set it up in no time after a few skims through the manual.

Sound:

If you like the Marshall sound, then you will not be dissapointed. The OD channels are loaded with power and hi-gain distortion sounds is not a problem. The clean sounds can however sound a bit lifeless and stale compared to a normal Marshall tube-head, but thats just me being very picky.

I've tried it through a few different poweramps, like the Marshall 8008 and Rocktron Velocity, and it has played nicely with them all.

The mixer-outputs sounds good too. I plug it straight into my soundcard from the mixer-outputs.

Overall:

If you want to build your own rack and get a Marshall sound, then the JMP-1 will not dissapoint. And I would probably get a new one if something happened to it.

Overall Grades:

Reliability: 10/10
Ease of use: 9/10
Sound: 8/10
Overall: 9/10
