Distortion

Jump to: navigation, search

Distortion is an effect used on amplified guitars & basses, which adds overtones and harmonics to the signal by compressing or clipping it. It can go from soft, smooth bluesy overdrives which thicken the tone, to highly saturated metal buzzing sounds.

Distortion can be achieved through different methods such as the guitar amplifier (both in the pre amp and in the power amp), stomp boxes, multi-effect units and amp modelling software & devices.
