  • Hello everybody!

I am sure all of you heard about Yngwie Malmsteen. He was a huge inspiration when I was discovering shred and neoclassical style of playing. When he released his first solo album the new guitar revolution had started. The way people approached rock/metal guitar playing wasn't the same anymore. He introduced a stunning technique with arpeggios, picking and the melody. It had been done before him but not in such way where people got so addicted to his spicey playing approach. You can check out his masterpiece albums like: Rising Force, Odyssey, Trilogy, Seventh Sign... All of these albums helped me develop my technique to a much higher level than I had before I heard of Yngwie.

This lesson introduces some of his non-stop used licks like 3 and 5 string minor arpeggios, 3 string diminished arpeggio, harmonic minor scales, phrygian dominant scales and some very fast runs using both of these. Sometimes I played A natural minor in combination with harmonic minor. The chord progression is very simple. You have an A5 power chord which is actually (A minor), then E5 (major) and Bdim7 which is still somehow related to the E5 chord. I used A Harmonic and Natural Minor scales all the way but when the chord changes to E I play E Phrygian Dominant which is again the same scale as A Harmonic Minor but in this case it is the 5th mode of A Harmonic Minor.

I hope you will find some useful licks in this one. If you want more of Yngwie's licks you can check out this forum topic where I left 15 audio licks in style of Yngwie together with the Guitar Pro file.

    Happy shredding!
