Hi GMC!
Welcome to this new lesson! Here I'll share 6 modern blues rock licks inspired by Tyler Bryant, a guitarist born in Texas (USA) in 1991.
In this new lesson you'll find 6 licks that combine his most used techniques, patterns and phrases over the same chord progression (Em - G -A) in order to recreate his approach to blues and rock improvisation. The key is E minor so we will mostly use E blues Scale with some extra chromatic notes.
Each lick introduces a new important aspect of his playing:
Lick 1: Tyler's melodic phrasing. Use of slides(grace notes)
Lick 2: Use of dynamics, staccato and repetitive ideas.
Lick 3: More aggressive playing, fast Pentatonic patterns and double stops.
Lick 4: Horizontal Pentatonic connection.
Lick 5: SRV Influence
Lick 6: Everything.
Tyler's playing has strong blues and classic rock blues. Some of his early influences are bands like The Black Crowes, The Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
In this lesson, I've tried to recreate his style when improvising over backing tracks since he shares lots of vids on his social networks. You can hear more from him by checking his band "Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown.
Sound:
I used Fractal Ax8's Suhr Badger 30, Cubase 9.5 to record audio and midi, Groove Agent for drums and Native Instruments Halion for bass guitar.
These are my settings:
In the mix I added a tube drive to make my lead guitar sound a bit dirtier:
