  • Welcome the the "Outlaw Country III" lesson! I was inspired by the classic sounds of Waylon Jennings while developing this one as well as Jerry Reed, Brad Paisley, and Brent Mason. The tone is dark and twangy. I'm using the bridge pickup on the Tele with some compression, an overdriven amp, and some slapback delay. A major technique in this piece is found in the percussive, hybrid picked motif. This lesson emphasizes style. This is a good one for practicing right hand palm muting and changing pressure in the left hand indicative of chicken picking. Another interesting technique is the use of dead notes. At times we will remove the obvious notes from a scale and replace them with dead notes - sort of a faux harmonic idea.
