  • HEY GMC!

It's great to be back and bringing you a new lesson after a break. This week I've written a lesson that looks at the style of 'Lo-Fi Hip Hop'. What's not so obvious from the genre's name is that it's heavily built around Jazz. A mixture of jazz recordings and Hip Hop beats/Production give this style its character.

From a guitarist's point of view we will be using lush jazz harmony, lots of voice leading and we'll pick up some cool chord melody idea's made popular by the inimitable (though many try) Wes Montgomery.

My set up for this lesson is explained through the videos but here's a break down of my setup.

    GEAR ; FENDER TELECASTER
MXR UNI-VIBE (SET TO VIBE AND WITH SLOW RATE)
INTO BIAS AMP (PRESET CAN BE FOUND ON THE BIAS TONE CLOUD UNDER 'LO-FI HIP HOP)
LOGIC PRO I'M USING A PLUG-IN CALLED 'IZOTOPE' WHICH EMULATES A VINYL RECORD PLAYER.

    TEMPO: 91 BPM
    TIME: 4/4
    KEY: E LYDIAN/E MAJOR

I hope you enjoy this lesson and I can't wait to bring you another new lesson very soon!

    Chris
