  • The "Faux Country Lap Steel II" lesson picks up where part I left off. Here we explore playing in a minor key. The minor key seems to hold a special place in country and western music in conjunction with the lap steel. The two seem to be made for each other demonstrated songs by greats like Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and even with more contemporary groups like Swedish band, First Aid Kit. This technique can help you get very close to that vintage sound using the gear you already have. The primary change is a simple tuning. We tune the G string up to A. The B string up to C and we only play the A, C, and high E strings. This represents the top half of a lap steel in the traditional C6 tuning. For a bit more on this concept be sure to checkout the first lesson in this series.
