  • Hi GMC!

Welcome to this new lesson! Here I'll share 5 dark blues rock licks inspired by Blues Saraceno, Jack Thammarat and Tyler Bryant.

In this new lesson you'll find 5 phrases that combine different techniques, patterns and concepts over the same chord progression (Dsus2 - Dm/F - Em7 - A). The style is blues rock, but the feel is a darker because of the slow tempo and minor key. The tonality is D minor, but the chord A appears as a variation that comes from D melodic or harmonic minor. The scales used are D blues, D minor, and D harmonic minor.

Each lick introduces a new important aspect of his playing:

Lick 1: Dark Blues Rock phrasing.

    Lick 2: Staccato & rhythm.

Lick 3: Hybrid Picking patterns & fast legato pentatonic sequences.

Lick 4: Double stops & fast alternate picking pentatonic licks.

    Lick 5: Phrasing & shredding.

If you enjoy this lesson, I recommend you to check Tyler and Jack’s improvisations, and Saraceno recent Dark Blues Country songs on Youtube.

    Sound:
I used Fractal Ax8's Suhr Badger 30, Cubase 9.5 to record audio and midi, Groove Agent for drums and Native Instruments Halion for bass guitar.
