Welcome to "The 4-3 Suspension" lesson. This lesson adds the the concepts of scale degrees, diatonic pitches, and adding color to chords. This is the ninth lesson in a series introducing music theory and here we look at the 4-3 suspension, a classic sound that can expand your rhythm repertoire.
Tone-wise I am using the middle position pickup selection on my Tele. I am using a simulated Fender-style amp with a little spring to get a basic gritty tone.
Concepts covered:
What does it sound like?
Building the 4-3 Suspension
The 4-3 suspension in a typical 2 chord sequence
Using the sus4 chord as a passing rhythmic color
Play-along with a typical 4-3 suspension in a two chord progression
Play-along with sus4 chords a a passing rhythmic color
Gear: Tele(neck pickup)>Wampler Ego Compressor>Tascam 4X4HR>Pro Tools>AmpliTube 5(American Amp 1)
In this lesson part I discuss the basics of building the 4-3 Suspension.
Enjoy!
