  • Hi guys Joe Kataldo here, in this lesson I wanna show you an uncommon way to fret 7th arpeggios to spice up your solos.

The main 7th arpeggios: D Major seventh - D Dominant seventh - D Minor Seventh and D Minor seventh flat five are presented in sequence with backing track following.

Each shape starts on the 5th note and are made of three one octave shapes, two note per each strings are played, before move on the next octave with the identical shape.

This symmetry is what makes this shapes great for fast descending/ascending runs during solo, I suggest you to check out John Petrucci's solo at 04:44" on Dream Theater song "Under a Glass Moon" from Images and Words album to hear a fast example of a two notes per strings E major 7 descending arpeggios.

The whole study is also a great workout for your fourth finger, that will surely benefit from it but, try to not overdo to avoid injuries

Have fun master the position and experiment yourself in your solos (feel free to post some of your licks based on this shapes in my board).

    See you next lesson,
    Joe Kataldo.
