THE PROFESSOR In this fun and funky lesson by Stephane, you can hear how important it is to understand and be able to play a few fundamental musical elements in order to nail down the Popa Chubby style, such as the blues and pentatonic concepts.

Learning how to play and construct the Minor Pentatonic Scale, as well as understand how the blues chord progression is built and used in this musical situation, are both important elements in the development of any guitarist looking to dig into Popa’s guitar vocabulary.

    Hi GMC!

In this lesson, we are going to take a look at New York guitarist Popa Chubby.
Popa Chubby style is a mix of swing, shuffle, rock, funk... with the New York "wild" touch.

We mainly use the Bb minor pentatonic scale but we are also going to add some notes to better underline the chord progression.

It's classic twelve bars blues with a funk feel/groove.

    Here's the chord progression :

    I Bb7 I % I % I % I
    I Eb7 I % I Bb7 I % I
    I F7 I Eb7 I Bb7 I % I

    Gear used :

    Haar Stratocaster
    Fender Hotrod Deluxe Amp
    Xotic BB preamp

    Key : Bb

    Tempo : 100 BPM
