  • Merry Christmas!

    It's time for a x-mas song!
I chose a typical German song that I really liked when I was a child. It's based on a simple melody but it's perfect for reharmonization. So, I added a cool mix of a classical and bit jazzy piano. This way the melody sounds more supported by the chords. Of course I added a lot of different phrasing to the simple melody to spice it up and make it more interesting for you.

A really important thing here is the dynamics of the the clean guitar sound and the ceremonial feeling. Every tiny note here is important! To make it more dramatic I did a modulation from D to F (which is a very common way to bring up the chorus)

The chords of the A & B section:

    A SECTION (0:00-1:05)
    D A | D D/F# | G | D D/F# |
    A Bbdim7 | Bm Bm6/G# | G6 A7 | D G/A |
    D A | D Am7 D79 | G Bm6/G#| D/A D/F# D D/F#|
    A Bbdim7 | Bm Bm6/G# | G6 A7 | D Bb/C |

    B SECTION (1:05-2:00)
    F C7 | Dm Cm7 F79 | Bb Bm7b5| F/C F/A F F/A|
    C7 Bbdim7 Aaug| Dm G7b5 G7| Bb6 C7 | F D7b9 D7 |
    Gm C7 | F D7#5 D7 | Gm7 C713 C7b9/13 | F |

    Final words
Just experiment with your own phrasing and you'll find out how important it is to keep an eye specially on those little notes and details like hammer-ons, pull-off etc. In the Guitar Pro 5 you'll find all those extras. Have fun with it!

    Merry X-mas!
    Guido

    P.S.
No Jam track this time, sorry! It wouldn't sound really good with a loop because I added some ritardando, some small tempo changes & the modulation in the song. But of course, there are three backing track for you.
