  • The "Fast Country Rhythm" lesson is an uptempo chicken picking style rhythm. I took some inspiration from modern players like Brad Paisley and Brent Mason. The basic idea is pick and strum, a technique where we emulate a bass player by playing alternating notes on the bottom while also strumming chords in between. While this piece is only 125 bpm, don't be fooled - your right hand will likely be aching as it is deceptively fast. The tone I'm going for is a lightly overdriven twang, so I'm using the bridge pickup, a compressor, and a slightly overdriven amp.

    Key: G
    Chords: G, B7, C, D, Em, A,
    Time Signature: 4/4
    BPM: 125

Gear: Strat (bridge pickup)>Presonus>Pro Tools>Waves GTR (compressor, reverb, warm amp)

    Scales:

G Bluesy Pentatonic (try this for soling)

    G

C Major (this scale is used during the chorus fills over C)
