  • The "Bluesy Country Solo II" explores the intersection of blues and country licks. The two genres often use similar scales and bends, but stylistic interpretation and technique nuances tend to set the two apart. In this lesson I tried to blend the two styles to create an interesting amalgamation. I was imaging John Mayer meets James Burton. The tone is more on the bluesy side. I'm using a single-coil neck pickup, into a compressor, with a pretty long delay. Then I'm running into a cranked amp with a pretty heavy dose of spring reverb. Stylistically you can hear the smoothness and at times rawness of the blues licks. The country elements are defined by chicken pickin' style staccato notes. The notes aren't very difficult in this piece so pay extra close attention to the stylistic elements.
