  • Welcome to my latest lesson!

Under the spotlight this time is Alex Skolnick, Testament's nimble fingered lead guitarist!

"Alexander Nathan Skolnick (born September 29, 1968), is an American jazz and metal guitarist who heads the jazz band Alex Skolnick Trio and is the lead guitarist of the Bay Area thrash metal band Testament." - Wikipedia

Alex's playing involves a lot of fast, slippery legato runs, similar in execution to Joe Satriani. He also has a really accurate picking technique and makes use of sweep picking. Alex is also fond of using the flat5th in his licks. Another recognisable trait of his is using a pinch harmonic on the last note of a fast run.

As well as lead playing, you will be tackling some typical Testament style riffing with power chords and harmonised lines in the E Phrygian Dominant (E Phrygian Major) mode.

    This lesson will work on:

    -Fast riffing / Down strokes
    -Alternate Picking
    -Legato
    -Pinch Harmonics
