Here's a heavy rock lick to be played with the palm muting technique.

Sound

I use the bridge pickup and the distortion channel of the Mesa Boogie V-Twin preamp with some reverb added in pro tools.

Theory

The lick is built around the Phrygian mode (3rd mode of the C Major scale). As often in heavy and rock riffing, notice the E pedal note usage.
