Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Hi Benny!

It's awesome to see a new take from you. I can say that your take sounds very promising.

0:15 - the up and down slides from the G string. These should be played very precisely. Also, use the pick when you make the second slide.

0:22 - be a little more careful when you play the vibrato. Mostly when you use an upwards motion. You have a lot of spots where you are out of pitch. Usually, keeping your vibrato with a downwards oscillation will give you more control over pitch. Also, it's much easier to release to the point zero.

0:28 - the release of the downward bend is delayed too much and you failed the timing.

0:32 - here you added a note which isn't in the tab

0:38 - you replaced the slide with a normal note which is played with an aggressive vibrato. This changed the entire feel of the lick (not in a good way).

1:00 - wrong note. You played this slide from G to A instead from G to G#.

1:12 - you added a G note (E string /15 fret). After you play the A note ( E string/17 fret) you should go directly into bends. In your take, you returned to G and then you made the bends. This is wrong.

1:19 - the first bend is out of pitch.

1:21 - again you added a note. The end lick contain for notes, in your take are 5 notes.

As general advice, try to use the same picking direction as Guido. There's a difference in sound between upstroke and downstroke. Also, take a look closely at the type of the slides. Some of them must be played faster.

You skipped many details and ornaments from the lesson but your take still remains very enjoyable. It's obvious that you have the perfect skills to apply all the things that I pointed out. Today you get a 6 from me.

Keep up your awesome work! smile.gif

Very nice!

You are already on a very cool path here. You are digging into the playing here and it feels very genuine.

There are still many details that can be improved and Monica has laid them out for you.

I would recommend you go through every note where you need to apply vibrato, and determine what is the most natural way for you to do it. Remember that upward vibrato generated by your finger muscles is generally the last thing you want to go for. Instead, downward movement using arm muscles and leverage point against the guitar neck is much more effortless and easy to control.

You overall timing still feels a little shaky but given how you dig in to your playing here, I suspect all you have to do is keep performing this one and it will sort itself out.

This is extremely promising, keep up the good work 👊

Hey Benf!

You are doing a very good job with this lesson. You have learned and can play all the phrases at normal tempo. The next goal should be to start incorporating the details that Guido uses in terms of articulation of phrases, length of notes, dynamics, and also tweaking the intonation a bit in some small sections.

I think Monica was very precise about all of these details. I recommend that you compare your recording with the original, lick by lick, to hear these details and start working on them.

You have a very good foundation, now it's time to take your guitar performance to the next level!

Keep going!
