How long did you live in Brazil for and more importantly how long did it take you to learn potuguese.

I'm DetroitBlues, the new kid on the block, and the old soul of the blues coming to you all fine people from Detroit. (Troy actually, but it's close enough for horse shoes and handgrenades). Looks like this place is the biggest best kept secret on the web. I'm very thankful to have been invited here.

Little bit of background on me, I started playing guitar at 14, on and off for the next 18 years. A relative of mine plays and the bug bit me hard shortly after playing with him. Bought a Epi Les Paul and fell I love with the blues. Tried to learn as much as could. Jammed with some coworkers and with their encouragement, I joined a band. Now I'm the lead guitarist in a local Blues Band, The Detroit Blues Crew. It's a fun ride, filled with its ups and downs. But it's the blues, no one said it was easy.

My primary axe is a 2001 American Standard Stratocaster with Dimarzio Area pickups. I also play an Epiphone Dot Deluxe with Seth Lover humbuckers and a partsocaster Stratocaster I've named the Detroit Bluescasters. My main amp is a Fender Blues Junior NOS with BillM mods. My effects include Dunlop Crybaby GCB95F Classic, Visual Sound Angry Fuzz, Digitech Bad Monkey, Boss Super Chorus, and a DeltaLabs Digital Delay. I've had many higher end guitars and amps, but I stuck with what feels and sounds right. I don't need a $5,000 guitar or 100watt full stack to play the blues. I've got what works for me.

Honestly, I also own Amplitube, GuitarRig, Revalver, and POD Farm and I use Poulin and TSE plugins over any of the paid plugins any day. Yes they are free plugins, but they wipe the floor with anything else out there of that nature (other than an AxeFX or Kemper).

If you don't know much about TSE check out their site, they have an ENGL 530 preamp vst, 5150 (x50) and a few pedals, and they are all top notch stuff.

I think what I was trying to say is that when I (as well as many other musicians throughout history) was learning as a little kid I didn't know any better in regard to a good instrument. I also didn't realize that there was such a thing as 'distortion', a wah pedal, a slide, a phaser, etc. I remember trying desperately to get all those sounds off of a Jeff Beck record (Blow by Blow) with just a cheap SG copy that I had to plug it into my dad's stereo. Though of course I couldn't do it, trying to make it sound like JB forced me to really work with my two hands. Especially my picking hand to coax tones out of that thing. Pick by the bridge, pick a little sideways, pick over the end of the fretboard, use my fingers, use all the pickups, use the tone control (a very underused component of an elec guit IMO), etc. When I finally did get a good instrument (and a wah pedal ) it was like ... "man, now this is easy!" OK, so I still don't sound like Jeff Beck but you get the idea. I am SO thankful that I was actually ignorant to the option of a 'good' instrument - for those early, formative years.
