Hey guys... It's been a long time, I know.. I am alright - I was lucky enough to escape the club with only a few burnt hairs and a mouthful of carbon monoxide which is slowly coming out when I am coughing. My band got away intact, but our friends onstage... the two guitarists are dead and the bassplayer, vocalist and drummer are struggling for their lives. We lost a great deal of good and dear friends and seen some horrors beyond anything imaginable. I am alive! It never sounded so meaningful as it sounds now... Stay safe, my far away friends. I will drop from time to time to say hi and see that you are safe. Cosmin, over and out. |

Hey matey, I see you are back again to amaze us  Nothing shorter than a 10 and indeed, I'm with Gabriel on the relaxation part. Sometimes, it can be something related to a mental state. I usually just practice something enough times so that I will instinctively know what's next and thus stay relaxed and simply play the piece. Hey mate! I am with Gabi on this one and in order not to repeat what he said, I think that you need to mentally be aware of the rhythmic subdivisions you are playing and anticipate them better in order to become more and more confident in executing them. Whenever I know a piece very well, I become very confident and it can really be felt in the playing. Take the time to slow it down and focus on playing it as rhythmic and articulated as possible and after that, raise the tempo while keeping the same spirit when playing it. Keep rocking mate! Hey mate! I liked this lesson a lot some time ago when I used it to warm up, so it's nice to see it in the REC Zone! I think you can take a bit off the gain, if you ask me and around 0:37 there's a slight hesitation. Aside Gabi's observations, I would like to add that some of the chord shifts around 0:21 for instance could be more clear executed, otherwise, I think that if you take the time to implement all these details at a slow speed and then work your way up by recording as many times as it takes until you feel comfortable, you will have a great take! Hello mate, Thank you for taking the time to re-post this one with the backing track, instead of the original recording. I agree with the guys in respect to the fact that you have a solid timing and you are playing clean, so all you need to do now, is take the time to fix the details that Gabi has signaled and you are good to go with this one. Take a bit of time to slow down the sections he mentioned and make sure you are playing the phrases as they appear in the original recording - there are moments in which we can de-focus and we tend to lose sight of some details Keep rocking! Since you used a hollowbody, your tone is a bit different in comparison to Steph's, but it does justice to the piece just the same You have great dynamics and it seems to me that you have followed the original recording's feel very nicely! Howdy mate! Great to see this one down in the REC Zone Now, I think that your legato technique in itself is heatlhy and the notes sound even in terms of volume and timing. The only issue, appears when you are shifting the positions and the timing is slightly shaky. I suggest you to take some more time and practice this one at a slow tempo, focusing especially on landing dead on the beat when practicing the shifts. The timing issues are most visible after 0:19 onward almost with every shift.All the best and keep rocking! Cosmin |

Hey Phil, Well, that's surely one very good perspective on things I for one have learned on my own skin that if you want to be good at something, you have to practice and stay hungry for that thing. Be consistent and things will come your way when the time is right - I know it sounds like a big mumbo jumbo esotherical heap of thingies, but that's how it is. The great Musashi said that one needs about 11000 days of practice (tanren) in order to become a master in his Way.I leave you with this book: http://www.bookoffiverings.com/ - read it from the beginning from time to time and strive on perceiving the abundence of wisdom it shares each time. Once again, thank you for your kind words, mate I think you are a very consistent player and if you keep up the pace with any direction that you choose, things can't be anything else but good About the practicing observations, I think that you should first and foremost practice the styles you like and if you feel like there's something stale in there, by all means, seek inspiration in other genres! I myself have noticed how nicely I can work on something without havin such a strict deadline and I got some recordings of my own in the works - more on that when they are ready, while standing up is clearly something which you should do especially if you want to get ready for the stage. I rehearse EVERYTHING I need to be able to play on stage while standing up and wheen it comes to Days of Confusion songs, I try rehearsing without looking at the neck and relying more on feeling where the positions are - just because I sing a lot and I can't look  See you around, Tim! Plus it will probably be better in the long run to be comfortable playing standing. Oh, and as we've also talked about. I've started dedicating one practice session a week purely to putting ideas and music together. I've always struggled to write songs, so im thinking that this should slowly ease me into it and make me more productive in this area. Alright, So guess it's time to call it a day. Hey mate, I like your take a lot! You have a good timing and your playing is clean! The only thing that I would like to talk about here, would be your vibrato - in the lesson, it is wider and rounder, while you kind of rush it a bit. Try to execute the vibrato as close to Javier's and I think that should be pretty much all you need to fix. If you play along with his recording, you can adapt your vibrato to his and it would be much easier to sound similar. Hey Phil - once again, it's all about what feels instinctively natural to us The bad part about it, is that if we do not strive to learn other things and make them sound natural, we will become redundant.You haven't reached that point yet, but for instance, when you would only know 4-5 licks and repeat those in all your solos on a 12 songs album, it would be pretty obvious. That's one reason for which you are training, by practicing things which push you further and further, so that you won't become redundant at some point |

Hey Phil! You got on the other side now You are rushing a bit and you are raising your hands too quickly off the positions so it sounds like someone is chasing you when playing. It's cleaner tho, but, lay back a little and try to feel the groove, mate. Playing alongside Ben a little bit more should be a good way to solve things. In the recording that you did before this one - I guess that one you did with Ben's recording, right? - things feel a lot more groovy, so try to nail that feeling - as I said, the more you play it with Ben's recording, the more you will get it in your system Deal? |

I have checked out the video and I can still note some timing and unwanted noises See 0:05, 0:17 - 0:19, 0:21, 0:24 - 0:27 (you're going a bit ahead of the beat here), 0:30 - 0:36 still rushing a tiny bit. As I said, you need to take care on being very precise with the chord shifts and with the groove of the piece - have you tried to play along with Ben? It will surely work on the groove and you will just need to pay attention to playing as clean as possible About your piece - I noticed that the first phrase has A and B not B and C# - am I right? The B minor pentatonic has the B D E F# A and B minor scale has the C# and the G but the D# is a major third which you probably used as a passing tone. Theory should be used to understand what you are doing and to communicate with others or to chisel a creation, but the creation itself, should be something that comes from the soul and it should be heard in the mind first So, your course of action is the right one, if you ask me IF you like how that D# sounds there, it's all good! |
